GRAPHIC DESIGN JOBS
Graphic design jobs / occupations are many and varied. Creative individuals can try their hand at a variety of pursuits in this wide domain. Some of the more lucrative jobs may be found in the realms of advertising, although many other viable outlets are available for consideration.Advertising is, of course, concerned with establishing a brand and cultivating loyalty thereby ensuring predictable revenue streams for an active commercial concern. Advertising in print media calls for the skills of a competent layout designer. That is, an individual is needed with an eye for the persuasive presentation of information on the printed page.
The concept of “brand” is essential when attempting to establish a commercial presence in a competitive marketplace. Brand is best conveyed via a logo. It can be argued that no logo is more globally recognisable than the Nike “swoosh.” This was invented by a graphic design student named Carolyn Davidson in 1971. She was paid $35 at the time. However, she went on to be employed by Nike itself. 'Although Davidson left Nike, in September 1983, [she was invited] to a company lunch. There, [she was presented] with a diamond ring engraved with the swoosh, and Nike stock in an amount that remains a secret.' It is perhaps telling that Davidson is now retired and spends her time pursuing hobbies and charitable endeavours.
Other graphic design occupations include producing easy-to-understand textbooks and building explanatory charts and graphs.
